Mike Casper

Mike Casper has spent years thinking about the people history left standing just outside the frame.

A husband, father, and grandfather living in Southern California, he writes biblical fiction and Christian historical fiction about ordinary lives brushed by the extraordinary. His collections Stone Thrower and Witnesses: Nine Stories from the Margins of the Gospels, along with the novel The Sing Song Child, keep returning to the same quiet question: What happened to the others?

The child watching from the edge of the crowd. The friends who refused to turn back. The woman who came to the well when no one else would. The man who carried a private burden no one else could see.

Casper does not claim to add to Scripture. He imagines the human weight of those moments—the fear that lingered, the wonder that would not leave, and the small rearrangements of a life after grace passed through it.

He writes in a plainspoken style because he wants the stories to feel close, almost overheard. Humor appears where it belongs. Sorrow is allowed to remain unresolved. Much of the work begins while he is walking beneath the Southern California sun and wondering about the people just outside the frame.
